Josephine Lenz Smith, 95, passed away June 4, 2011, under the care of Hospice Savannah. Mrs. Smith, the daughter of Rosa Lee Sullivan Lenz and Charles Joseph Lenz, was born November 22, 1915 in Bessemer, Alabama. She attended Howard College Sanford University where she met her future husband, Henry Skipper Smith, Jr. While at Howard, she became a member of Phi Mu Fraternity and received her 75th year pin in 2009. A member of the Catholic faith, Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood, Alabama. She enjoyed volunteerism in the church gift shop where she served Saturday afternoons for many years. During her many years in Birmingham, her activities included membership in the Encore Dance Club and the Iris Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, her sister, Margaret Lenz Browne, and a great-grandson, Charles Stanford Bolen.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Henry Skipper Smith, III of Birmingham, Alabama, and a daughter and son-in-law, Sheron Smith Bolen William, of Statesboro, GA. Grandchildren include Henry Skipper Smith, IV Charlotte, Lesley Smith DeRamus Sterling Kelley Michele Smith, William Harold Bolen, Jr., and Charles Henry Bolen Diane. Great-grandchildren, Mary Eleanor DeRamus, Sterling DeRamus, Jr., William Smith, Campbell Smith, Ansley Bolen, and William Bolen, III. She is also survived by a nephew, Patrick Browne, and a niece, Jean Jarvis, of Birmingham.

A Private Graveside Service will be held in Birmingham, Alabama.
